Objective: After reading your selected comic books or graphic novel, write a 1-2 page review that informs the reader about the comic book.
- What's the story about, who wrote it, what else did they write?
- Who did the art, and how did it help with the story's tone, feeling?
- What about the story did you like, what worked?
- What didn't work, and why?
- Would you recommend this to somebody else, why or why not?
- For you personally, what did you identify with in the story, be it a character or characters, spoken words, actions? Talk about something from the comic that touched you in a personal way.
- Read How to Review Comics to get a clear idea of what makes a good review vs a bad review.
- To get a broader understanding of the principles that go into a good review, read the NY Film Academy's take on writing film reviews.
- For another side of reviews, learn about how Emily Nussbaum tackles TV reviews, digging into elements of gender, sex, sexism, violence, culture, and politics, among other important issues and influences. NPR, at the above link, has an excerpt from her very wonderful book!
